Nigeria’s second-hand market is huge — phones, generators, furniture, fashion — but most of the risk sits with the person posting. This guide is the playbook we want every Zweka seller to follow, whether you are clearing a wardrobe in Abuja or selling a fridge in Port Harcourt.
1. Verify before you publish
Zweka requires identity verification to go live. That protects buyers and keeps scrapers and stolen-goods flippers out. Complete verification in Verify to sell, then publish your draft from Your listings. Learn why we ask in What is a virtual NIN.
2. Photos sell the item
- Natural light, no heavy filters.
- Show scratches, screen burn and missing parts — buyers forgive honesty; they do not forgive surprises.
- Include at least one full-item shot and one detail shot.
- For phones: IMEI/settings screen if you are comfortable, and note if the box or charger is included.
Strong photos reduce disputes and speed up offers. Weak photos attract tyre-kickers and lowball messages.
3. Write a title people search for
Lead with the brand and model people type into Google or our search box: “iPhone 13 128GB”, “LG dual door fridge”, “IKEA two-seater sofa Ikeja”. City or area helps local buyers. Then check that similar items actually appear when you search the marketplace yourself.
4. Pick the right mode
| Mode | Best when |
|---|---|
| Deal | You want a clear price and optional offers |
| Auction | Demand is high and you want competitive bidding |
| Swap | You would rather trade than take cash |
| Giveaway | You want it gone and can choose an applicant |
You can switch mode later without re-uploading photos. Compare modes in Swap, sell, auction or giveaway, and dig into auction tips if you want competitive bidding.
5. Use secure payouts
When a buyer pays on Zweka, we hold funds until they confirm. That is safer than collecting cash from strangers or sharing your personal account for every sale. Add a payout account under Getting paid, and read how Zweka holds your payment so you know when money moves.
6. Delivery choices
Offer courier where you can, and meetup only in public places if you meet. Never invite unknown buyers to empty compounds late at night. For courier, pack properly and keep the tracking link in the order chat. Our meetup vs courier guide covers the trade-offs.
7. After the sale
Respond quickly in Messages. Update the listing if stock is gone. Rate the other party when the trade closes — ratings compound trust for your next sale. If you want more eyes on slow inventory, boost with coins using the tips in boost listings with coins.
